640 Hour Basic Law Enforcement Training Course

(Class “A” License)

Beginning August 23, 2007

The Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy will sponsor a part-time basic 640 class in Mexico, Missouri, starting August 23, 2007 and running through June, 2008. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.; Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and a few selected Sundays.

Financial aid and college credits will be through Missouri State University, West Plains campus. Contact Donna Bassham or Joann Ragon at 417-255-7243 concerning the financial aid process.

Tuition	$ 4300.00
Application & Processing Fee	$ 150.00 (Non-refundable)
Criminal Background Check Fee	$ 50.95

Crime Alert – Copper Wire (2007-03-19)

Recently, the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office has taken numerous reports of thefts of copper, mainly in the form of electical wire from irrigation systems of our local farms. This has resulted in thousands of dollars in repair and replacement costs to our farmers.

Citizens are encouraged to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report it to the Sheriff’s Office immediately at 573-473-5800 or by calling “Crime Stoppers” at 1-800-392-TIPS.

Site Update: Audrain County Joint Communications to begin Emergency Medical Dispatch program.

Audrain County Joint Communications will soon go “live” with its Emergency Medical Dispatch program using the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch’s Medical Priority Dispatch System. This EMD program will allow the Joint Communications dispatchers to better serve the residents and visitors of Audrain County during a medical emergency by quickly assessing the patient’s problem and determining what fire and EMS agencies should respond to the emergency based on their assessment. The EMD program also provides for Pre-Arrival Instructions that can be relayed by phone from the dispatcher to a person who is with the patient should the patient need CPR, the Heimlich Maneuver, or deliver a child.

A brochure, titled “Medical Emergencies,” has been added to the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office web site’s Downloads area to assist the public with the transition from the current “take-and-transfer” call taking approach, where the dispatcher obtains the patient’s location and problem then transfers them to an EMS agency for an ambulance, to the EMD approach where the dispatcher is able to assess the patient’s condition and provide them with help before an ambulance arrives. This brochure provides basic background information about 911, examples of when to call 911, and what to expect when you do 911.

Site Update: Joint Communications section updated (Trailer Courts Map)
